Formed in 2022 in Bristol, Knives is a melting pot of inspiration and innovation, pushing and pulling between different lived experiences and musical journeys. From punishing bouts of hardcore fury to gritty flourishes of post-punk intensity, and loose strands of quick-witted alt-rock to shimmering waves of free-flowing experimental jazz, the sextet have proclaimed that they leave no stone unturned. Unafraid of leaping over boundaries, they are committed to covering previously uncharted ground.
“...the perfect balance between raucous, high-voltage riffs and lyrics tapping deep into social issues.” - The Bristol Gig Guide
The band’s commitment to inclusivity is central to their identity, creating a space where people of all backgrounds are welcome. Such exuberance and excitement for crafting a whole new space resulted in the swift creation of their 2023 debut EP, ‘Newshounds', a raw and rallying burst of fresh and fierce energy. 2024 saw the band build on those foundations with 'What We See in Their Eyes', a collection of songs that burrowed even deeper into the subconscious, a sign of what happens when you allow different energies to coexist in their unique harmony.
Throw in appearances at 2000trees Festival and Forwards in the UK and Loose Ends in the Netherlands, as well as shows alongside DZ Deathrays, CLT DRP, Wargasm and Enola Gay, and the band have quickly established themselves as a true force to be reckoned with.
Knives are an audio and visual experience where anything and everything is possible, and anybody and everybody is welcome to contribute to the carnage.
With their upcoming debut album ‘GLITTER', their first release through Marshall Records, Knives have fine-tuned their chaos into something truly spectacular, marking a bold new chapter for the band. The album serves as a manifesto of mayhem with bile-drenched musings on everything from rotten experiences with evil-eyed landlords to combatting toxic masculinity, standing up for marginalised voices and putting empathy and understanding at the forefront. Set to challenge boundaries and inspire connection, ‘GLITTER’ is an unmissable statement from a group determined to leave their mark.
